1. How does this work?
Quite simple really.
If you've arrived at the network in search of a show,
all you have to do is browse through the categories
that apply to the show you're looking for. Once
you find the exact show you're looking for you will be
given a list of all the members on the Network that
have that show. You can then find one you'd like
to email (either randomly, by location, by willingness
to B&P or trade, rating, when their last update was,
etc...) and click on their name. This will
pop-up a window that will allow you to email the
person for a B&P or a trade, depending on what they
are willing to do.
DO NOT email members for a trade if you do not have anything to trade for, instead, look for someone who is willing to B&P a show. If a member does not do B&P's and/or trades, please respect their wishes and save them the email.
2. What is a B&P?
This refers to "Blanks
and Postage." This is a type of trade in which someone
offers free music to someone else. All a person must
do is send whoever is offering a blank piece of media
(or however many blanks are needed to copy a show, typically a couple CD-Rs
or a VHS tape) and enough postage, to cover the costs
of return shipping (and typically a return envelope).
After the person who is doing the B&P receives these
blanks and postage, they can simply burn the show to
these blanks, put them in the return envelop and send
them back to the person who sent them. This type of
trade involves no profit whatsoever and is done purely
for the spreading of music from one person to another.
This type of trading is quintessential to the
spreading of music to people new to the bootleg
trading community who have little or nothing to trade
in return.
3. Do I have to "join" to email a
member or trade?
Simply, no. The
Network really doesn't have a true membership system,
rather it allows a simple place for people to store
their Counting Crows bootlist. This information
is then parsed over the Network making it easy to find
a given show that you want, and then find the people
that have it. So their really is no joining,
rather members can store and modify their bootlists.
This allows for people who don't have anything to
trade/B&P an avenue to get this material. If you
had to have material to join the Network, the newbie
population would be alienated.
4. How much do these shows cost
to receive?
ZERO. The
Counting Crows Trader Network does not condone or
allow selling of these freely available shows.
If a member is found selling shows to Network members
they will be removed from the system and emails will
go out to warn members of people like this. The
Network is not out to be a profitable places for
leaches to sell shows to the Counting Crows community.
All shows distributed by members here are free, by via
trading or B&P'ing.
5. I have some show information
(location, venue, setlist, source, taper, etc..). Can
I add it to the Network?
There are two ways to do this. On shows without setlists listed,
The Network will give you an option to input it in a text field. If you find information
to be incorrect, then drop me an
email and
I'll verify/change it ASAP.
6. When I click to email someone
nothing happens?
One of two things,
either you have pop-up stopper software installed on
your computer (if so add the database URL to your okay
list in that program, or disable it for a second), or
you have JavaScript turned off. This can be turned
back on in your browsers preferences. Afterwards
the Network should "pop-up" the email address for the
person just fine.
Any other questions?
Email me.
